Today, I read the Science article about collective intelligence. It seems that their research supports the notion that group intelligence is as predictive as individual intelligence and that collective intelligence is not strongly dependent upon the average intelligence of the group members.This reminds me a little of entrainment and the notion of resonance.
In a safe group environment, I would imagine this collective intelligence is rather like the characteristics of Katzenbach's high-performing teams. The generative ability of such collective efforts I think can be found in the expansion of the Society of Jesus before the Enlightenment and the growth of Nova Southeastern University in our own times.
